The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo are officially underway, and Team Canada is already making its mark on the world stage. With events continuing through February 22, here is a snapshot of how Canada is performing so far.

This currently places Canada 13th overall in the medal standings. As more events unfold, that ranking is expected to shift. There are many strong medal contenders still to compete.
Megan Oldham delivered a standout performance, capturing bronze in Women’s Slopestyle and earning her first Olympic medal.
Canada’s short track speed skating team powered to silver in the Mixed 2000 metre relay, showcasing depth, strategy and strong teamwork.
Valerie Maltais added to the medal count with a bronze in the Women’s 3000 metre long track speed skating event, continuing Canada’s proud tradition in speed skating.
The women’s hockey rivalry between Canada and the United States continues to generate headlines. Team Canada faced a tough group stage matchup and will look to rebound as the tournament progresses.
In figure skating, ice dance veterans Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier remain strong contenders and are very much in the medal conversation as the competition continues.
With several marquee events still to come including alpine skiing, snowboarding, hockey finals and figure skating, Canada has multiple opportunities to climb the medal table.
One thing is certain. Team Canada is competing with heart, resilience and that unmistakable Canadian grit.
